Welcome to the online home of the Royal Brunswick Lodge No 732. We are a historic Freemasons lodge, but we’re also a warm and friendly community based right here in the heart of Brighton. Whether you’re a curious visitor, someone with a long-held interest in Freemasonry, or a brother mason from another lodge, we’re delighted you’ve found us. We hope this site will help you discover what makes our lodge so special and why becoming a Freemason could be a truly rewarding journey.
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest fraternal organisations. Far from being a secret society, our principles and goals are public and clear. We’re a society of men who are committed to self-improvement and living by a simple yet powerful set of principles: integrity, honesty, and brotherly love.
Freemasonry is not a religion, and we welcome men from all faiths. Instead, we provide a moral and ethical framework that helps us to be better fathers, husbands, friends, and citizens. Our meetings follow traditional ceremonies, rooted in the history of stonemasons’ guilds, which use symbolism and allegories to teach these valuable lessons. It’s a rich and engaging experience that many of our members find incredibly fulfilling. As a lodge registered with the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), we are part of a national and global fraternity dedicated to making a positive difference in the world.
The Royal Brunswick Lodge offers a truly unique experience. While there are thousands of lodges across the country, RBL is one of the few older lodges, a status signified by our low number, No 732. We were consecrated over 150 years ago, and with that long history comes a wealth of rich traditions. Our ceremonies still carry a unique touch that often surprises and delights even our most well-travelled visitors.
We are a small, close-knit lodge, and that’s one of our greatest strengths. When you join RBL, you aren’t just a number—you’re a friend, and a valued part of a community. We believe the real strength of a lodge lies in its bonds of brotherhood. This smaller size also has a practical benefit: for those who wish to progress through the lodge offices, the path can be significantly faster. Many of our members have found that they can become the Master of the lodge in as little as eight years, which can take two or three times as long in larger, more populous lodges. We’re a very social lodge, with members from all walks of life, from young to old, and from different nationalities. From casual pub gatherings and family picnics to our regular meetings and formal dinners (known as the festive board), there’s always an opportunity to connect with fellow members.
